Report: Love Arrested and Hospitalized
Courtney Love was arrested in Southern California early Thursday for allegedly being under the influence of a narcotic after police responded to a burglary call at a home where the actress-musician had allegedly broken the windows in an attempt to enter, Los Angeles Police Department spokesman Don Cox told the Associated Press. Love, 39, was arrested in the Wilshire district of Los Angeles and booked for investigation of being under the influence of a controlled substance, said Cox. She posted $2,500 bail and was released.
Hours later, according to a story posted Thursday on the Los Angeles Times Web site, Beverly Hills police and paramedics responded to an emergency call at a private residence where a woman was found to be under the influence of a controlled substance.
The woman — identified by police sources to the Times as being Love — was then taken to nearby Century City Hospital for treatment of a possible drug overdose, reports the paper, which also added that she was no longer at the hospital by midday on Thursday.
It was not known what her condition was, the Times noted.
Messages from the Associated Press that were left for Love’s publicist and her lawyer were not returned as of late Thursday.
Love, the widow of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and herself the lead singer for the group Hole, was arrested earlier this year upon landing at London’s Heathrow Airport for allegedly verbally abusing cabin staff on a Virgin Atlantic Airways flight from Los Angeles.
Police later released her after cautioning her for causing harassment, alarm and distress to another person, and she and Virgin CEO Richard Branson publicly cracked jokes about the incident at a party following an Elton John concert the next day.
