‘Cha Cha Slide’ Bumps Britney Off Top of UK Charts
LONDON (Reuters) – Aerobic dance workout “Cha Cha Slide” from Chicago DJ Casper has bumped American pop princess Britney Spears off the top of the UK singles charts after only one week, the UK Official Charts Company said Sunday.
Casper — real name Willie Perry — climbed one rung to the top slot with a number he first created in the 1990s as a workout for a gym trainer.
Spears slipped to second place with “Toxic” while Jennifer Lopez debuted at No. 3 with “Baby I Love U.”
Reality show contestant Peter Andre eased to No. 4 from third place with his re-released 1996 hit “Mysterious Girl.”
Enrique Iglesias was the week’s second highest new entry at NO. 5 with “Not in Love,” also featuring New York R&B singer Kelis.
Los Angeles rap group Black Eyed Peas at sixth were the top ten’s other new entry with “Hey Mama.”
British R&B singer Jamelia’s “Thank You” slid one spot to seventh while Australian singer Kylie Minogue’s “Red Blooded Woman” dipped three places to number eight.
Veteran pop singer George Michael, who earlier this week vowed to donate money from future releases to charity, dropped to ninth from No. 4 with “Amazing.”
Jamaican DJ Beenie Man’s collaboration with singer Ms Thing, “Dude,” dropped three places to hold the 10th position.
