Alleged Britney Spears Stalker Arrested

Posted on 30 Apr 2004 at 11:00pm

A 25-year-old Canadian man named Daniel Lachance was caught entering the property of Britney Spears father on Tuesday (April 27), and was consequently arrested on charges of criminal trespassing and stalking. Lachance was being held on $150,000 bond in the Tangipahoa Parish jail on Wednesday, according to a sheriff’s spokeswoman, who also stated that this is the second time since April 12 that Lachance has been arrested for being on the property.

Earlier this month, Spears asked a judge to throw out claims made by a Japanese man named Mashaiko Shizawa, who the singer once accused of stalking her. Shizawa filed a federal lawsuit against Spears and her two security guards, in which he claimed that he suffered severe emotional distress after an encounter with Spears’ staff. Shizwa alleged that one of the guards pointed a gun at him and demanded that he leave the property, and he claims he now suffers from, quote, “nervousness, anxiety and chronic upset stomach.”

Courtney Pleads Innocent

Posted on 30 Apr 2004 at 11:00pm

First Courtney Love told David Letterman she’s innocent. Then she told Jay Leno she’s innocent. On Friday, she finally got to tell someone even more important–a judge–that, yes, she’s innocent.

The America’s Sweetheart singer turned up for her arraignment in Beverly Hills Superior Court Friday and pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of drug possession stemming from her well documented October meltdown.

Decked out in a black trench coat, Love, 39, was generally subdued during the proceedings. She kept quiet, thumbing through a book, until it was time for her to enter her plea.

Love faces up to three years and eight months in prison if convicted of the two counts; she was ordered back to court for a pretrial hearing on June 4.

Judge Elden S. Fox already ruled two weeks ago that there was sufficient evidence for Love to stand trial.

Christina Calls Off Tour

By Sarah Hall

The “Dirrty” girl’s summer tour is a washout.

Christina Aguilera has canceled all upcoming performances on the advice of her doctor, due to a set of stripped pipes sustained in the studio.

Medical types advised the “Beautiful” singer to rest and give her voice time to recover–and, apparently, words can keep her down.

“I am extremely disappointed to have to cancel this tour,” Aguilera said in a statement. “I was looking forward to being on the road again and spending time with my fans.”

The 29-date North American tour was set to kick off May 13 in Auburn, Washington with special guest, Chingy.

According to Aguilera’s Website, www.christinaaguilera.com, tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.

Pointer Sister Busted

Posted on 30 Apr 2004 at 11:00pm

By Josh Grossberg

We’re guessing this Pointer Sister is not so excited about her run-in with the law.

June Pointer Whitmore, the youngest member of the hit-making, Grammy-winning R&B diva outfit, was arrested last Thursday night with two other people outside older sister Bonnie Pointer’s Hollywood apartment and charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

June, 50, was released on $10,000 bail Saturday. Bonnie, who exited the Pointer Sisters in 1978 to make the jump to a solo career with Motown Records, was not charged in the case.

According to Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, police confronted Whitmore and her pals outside after responding to citizen complaints. A subsequent search turned up the drugs and pipes, and the singer was booked on one count of cocaine possession and one count of possessing an “illegal smoking device.”

JOJO SET TO ”LEAVE” BEHIND THE COMPETITION

Posted on 28 Apr 2004 at 11:00pm

(New York, New York, April 2, 2004)

Blackground/Universal recording artist, JoJo, takes hold of the #9 position on this weeks Billboard’s Singles Sales Chart with her first single from her Universal debut “Leave (Get Out)”. “Leave” is an energetic, head-bobbing track produced by Soulshock and Karlin (Whitney Houston, Craig David) which is sure to be the girl-power, independent anthem of the summer.

JoJo is no stranger to the music business. Her life begin to change after she came across a small newspaper clipping that advertised an audition for CBS-TV’s Kids Say the Darndest Things On The Road In Boston. Her soul and passion left the producers speechless and she was immediately given a spot to perform. Once JoJo hit the stage, Bill Cosby, the show’s host, asked her to sing a little something for the people-packed Faneuil Hall. JoJo belted out a show-stopping rendition of Aretha Franklin’s “Respect” which earned her an overwhelming response from the audience. (As well as from Bill Cosby, himself.) A phone call from The Oprah Winfrey show followed soon after.

JoJo spent the next four months recording tracks for her self-titled debut in New York, Miami and Los Angeles, working closely with famed producers such Vincent Herbert (Destiny’s Child, Toni Braxton), Mike City (Brandy), Brian Morgan (SWV), The Underdogs (Tyrese, Ruben Studdard), and writer Static (Aaliyah, Ginuwine).
