Missy Elliott cancels planned concert

JAKARTA, Indonesia (05.28.04) – Hip-hop star Missy Elliott cancelled a planned concert in Jakarta after the U.S. Embassy warned Americans about potential terrorist attacks in Indonesia. Elliott had been scheduled to perform Wednesday as part of an international tour. “We apologize to all the fans of Missy Elliott because of this cancellation,” Roberto of Lunar Entertainment, the show’s promoter, said Tuesday. Roberto, who uses a single name like many Indonesians, said ticket holders will get refunds.

Celine Sings Again

It ain’t over until the skinny French-Canadian lady sings.

Celine Dion took the Caesars Palace stage after a two-week hiatus to mend her injured neck.

The pop chanteuse kicked off her New Day show Wednesday night with tears in her eyes.

“I know I don’t have to talk to you about the last two weeks because I could talk for hours,” Dion told the audience. “But things happen and sometimes we get injured.”

“I’ve missed being here. “I’ve missed you,” added the singer as she thanked the crowd for “the privilege to perform for you.”

Barbra Streisand Pays Up

After months of wrangling, the singer-actress-diva met a court-imposed deadline Friday and coughed up $177,000 in legal fees to her opponents in a lawsuit battle over Web photos of her Malibu compound.

Patti LaBelle, Evangelista Attend AIDS Event

Patti LaBelle and supermodel Linda Evangelista brought their star power to one of the glitziest parties of the year as thousands gathered for the 2004 Fashion Cares event.

LaBelle was the featured performer at the 18th annual HIV/AIDS benefit held Saturday night. Evangelista hosted the runway show.

Courtney Love Pleads Guilty

Courtney Love has faced the music.

The erratic rocker pleaded guilty in a Los Angeles courtroom Tuesday to a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of her arrest last October.

The charge alleged that Love had been using cocaine and opiates at the time she was arrested.

Love, dressed in a colorful dress topped by a lavender sweater, spoke quietly as she entered her plea.

Madonna Pays Up in Copyright Flap

Apparently, the idea behind Madonna’s “Hollywood” video was not such a virginal concept after all.

The Material One has settled a copyright lawsuit that claimed she ripped off the work of late French erotic photographer Guy Bourdin in her most recent video from her American Life album.

The Smoking Gun reports that Madonna has reached an agreement with Bourdin’s son, Samuel, over the content of her video. Details of the arrangement have not been revealed. But Madonna has not acknowledged any wrongdoing in the incident.
