Erykah Badu Joins Visual Artist Steven Lopez for Social Change Through Arts
Soul singer Erykah Badu has recently joined Los Angeles visual artist Steven Lopez to sign one hundred copies of the limited edition Giclée prints of “Amerykahn Promise” after being featured in his collection of portraits “After Midnight” which celebrates notable musicians.
The two reportedly will both be signing the limited edition Giclée prints which will be available starting April 15 at midnight at the website After Midnight Soul (www.aftermidnightsoul.com).
According to a statement by Lopez, the artist has always wanted to incorporate the singer into works who is one of his favorite performers.
“She understands the healing power of sound and she delivers strength which is often lost in today’s music,” said Lopez.
Lopez reportedly got Erkyah Badu’s attention by posting his completed artwork in the comment section of her website, and the singer loved it so, she posted it on her Myspace page and later reached out to him.
“When I saw the image on Erykah’s MySpace page I was really surprised and extremely honored,” said Lopez. “It was a great feeling to know that she appreciated my work and wanted to share it with her fans.”
In return of signing the artistic portraits, proceeds from the painting will be donated to Erkyah Badu’s charity organization Beautiful Love Incorporated Non-Profit Development (B.L.I.N.D.) which provides community-based programs for inner-city youth.
Other artists in the collection include Aretha Franklin, Jill Scott, India.Arie, Tina Turner and others.
