Adele Tops Billboard Music Awards, Jordin Sparks Performance (Winners List)
Adele who unfortunately didn’t attend the 2012 Billboard Music Awards, lead Sunday’s awards ceremony by taking home 12 out of 18 trophies which included Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Digital Songs Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, amongst others.
Pop star Rihanna took home the award for Top Streaming Artist, while female hip-hop artist/rapper Nicki Minaj took home the award for Top Streaming Song (Video). R&B singer Kelly Rowland took home the Top R&B Song award for her sexy slow-jam “Motivation” featuring Lil Wayne. Momma Monster aka Lady Gaga took home awards for Top Dance Album and Top Dance Artist while new mom Beyonce took home the Top R&B Album award for her album 4.
Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira won the award for Top Latin Artist and Laura Story won Top Christian Song for “Blessings.”
The late Whitney Houston who died in February, as reported on MusiqQueen, received the Millennium Award which was accepted by her daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown and sister-in-law/manager Pat Houston.
Bobbi Kristina Brown was humble during the acceptance and told the audience and fans that she was thankful for everyone supporting them through it all and not just for when everything was good, but also when it was bad. Brown went on to say how blessed she was to have been in the life of such an incredible woman.
“There will never be another one – ever,” said Bobbi Kristina Brown.
Other moments during the show included Jordin Sparks tribute to Whitney Houston in which she sung “I Will Always Love You.” Natasha Bedingfield performance of “Last Dance” in remembrance of Donna Summer, who died last week of lung cancer, which was chopped for a commercial break and Cee Lo Green’s performance of Beastie Boys’ “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party!)” for Adam “MCA” Yauch, who died earlier this month of salivary gland cancer.
