It’s time to enter the KRCL Singer-Songwriter Showcase, co-sponsored by the Intermountain Acoustic Music Association. The finals of the 4th annual Showcase contest will be held on Saturday, August 11, in the beautifully restored Egyptian Theater in Park City, Utah. The Showcase kicks off the Founder’s Title Folk & Bluegrass Festival, which this year features John Hammond, Patty Larkin, The Winstons, The Grasshoppers, and more. In addition, last year’s Showcase winner, Joel Cage, will perform on the main Festival stage on Sunday, August 12. more………….
Prizes are still to be determined, but last year included a B-Band processor, a Calton guitar case, and cash prizes. All finalists will receive a ticket to the Founder’s Title Folk & Bluegrass Festival. Top finishers will be invited to perform as “tweeners” at this year’s Folk & Bluegrass Festival, and this year’s winner will be invited to be a main stage performer at next year’s Festival. Last year’s top finishers included Joel Cage, Holly Figueroa, Megan Peters, Eleni Kelakos, and Marv Hamilton.
To enter, send a CD or rewound cassette with two original songs, plus a $15 entry fee, to KRCL Showcase c/o IAMA, P.O. Box 2187, Salt Lake City, Utah 84110-2187, by May 1.
This recording should sound like your live sound (in other words, not elaborately produced) and with only your instrument and your voice. Please label the CD or tape with your name, e-mail and/or snail mail address, and phone number, and please, no bios, press kits, or other literature.
A panel of judges will select ten finalists to play two songs each at the Showcase. Judging will be based equally on the quality of songwriting, quality of vocal rendering, and quality of instrumental performance. If you are selected, you will be notified by e-mail or by postcard by May 15 so you can plan your summer tour schedule accordingly.
