INDIEGRRL MARKS THIRD YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH FESTIVAL AT MAKOR IN NYC, MAY 31, 2001
Some of the nation’s finest songwriters will take the stage at MAKOR, May 31. NYC artists Rachael Sage, Halley DeVestern, Edie Carey, Sam Shaber, and Anne Heaton will be joined by Amelia White (Boston), and Indiegrrl founder Holly Figueroa (Seattle, with special guest, Evan Brubaker from The Folk Monty/The Bixby’s). Indiegrrl began in 1998 as an email discussion list. Since its inception, it has grown into a 1,200 member cooperative, hosting three national tours, three compilation CD’s, and in January 2001 spawned a cooperative record label, Indiegrrl Records (IGR) recently picked up by national distributors All Indie and Burnside Distribution (BDC).

RACHAEL SAGE (www.rachaelsage.com)
Keyboardist/singer Rachael Sage has just released her third album,
“Painting of a Painting”, on her own nationally distributed MPress Records in New York City. A John Lennon Songwriting Contest and USA Songwriting Competition winner, she has also toured with Ani Difranco, played the Lilith Fair and is a best-seller on MP3.com. “Earthiness, color and emotion…Sage has folk on the brain and piano keys for hands and is sure to put on a show sublime.” – The Village Voice
EDIE CAREY (www.ediecarey.com)
“There is a deceptive delicacy about Edie Carey. Just when you think you’ve figured her for a fragile, soulful songstress, she cuts into a
subject…with a diamond-edged blade. Beware! You’ll be drawn into her
spell.” – Marilyn Rea Beyer, WUMB, Boston
HALLEY DEVESTERN (http://www.halleydevestern.com)
Halley DeVestern’s take-no-prisoners roots-rock soul music has brought her critical acclaim and a growing fan base throughout the Northeast and in her home town of New York City. Often compared to Janis Joplin, Melissa Etheridge and Joan Osborne, Halley has opened for such blues and rock legends as John Hammond, Jimmy Vaughan, Son Seals and Johnny Winter, and toured with Big Brother and the Holding Company. She is currently working on her third album.
SAM SHABER (www.samshaber.com)
A winner in the 2001 John Lennon Songwriting Competition, Sam Shaber has been described as “Stark, raving great!” by major radio station WXPN in Philadelphia. Raw and edgy, Sam Shaber pours herself into every note and brings the audience right along with her. Touring from San Francisco to Scotland with 3 critically acclaimed releases, she also writes for national music magazines. One of the Top 5 female artists of 2000! (FEMMUSIC.com.)
ANNE HEATON (www.anneheaton.com)
Heaton’s ethereal vocals and storytelling “entrance a room of listeners – magically bringing them to another level.” (Brooke Primont, BMI)
AMELIA WHITE (www.ameliawhite.com)
Noted by the Boston Globe as an artist “on the rise” with her “street tough folk songs”, Amelia White has been making waves in the northeast and northwest with her country tinged folk-pop. “White’s disc maintains a breezy pop sound without becoming lightweight. …she sings assuredly over sparse acoustic backing, or with full-band instrumentation. – Richard A. Martin, Seattle Weekly
HOLLY FIGUEROA (w/special guest Evan Brubaker) (www.hollyfigueroa.com)
