Indigo Girls Unveil New Album, Acoustic Tour
The Indigo Girls will return March 12 with their eighth studio album, “Become You,” and plan to support it with an acoustic tour of North America. The 12-track “Become You” was produced by Peter Collins, who previously teamed with the group for 1992’s “Rite of Passage” and 1994’s “Swamp Ophelia.” It’s the follow-up to 1999’s “Come On Now Social,” which debuted at No. 34 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 250,000 copies in the U.S. to date, according to SoundScan.
Ray and Saliers will hit the road alone for a tour largely comprising small clubs, beginning Feb. 11 in Boulder, Colo., with dates currently booked through March 5 in Toronto. Additional shows are expected to be added.
“Become You” features six songs each from principal singer/songwriters Amy Ray and Emily Saliers, and find the pair backed by its touring group: Carol Isaacs (keyboards/percussion), Clare Kenny (bass), and Brady Blade (drums). The album’s first single will be the Ray-penned “Moment of Forgiveness.”
Last spring, Ray released her first solo album, “Stag,” on her own Daemon Records. Noting that album’s more rock-oriented material, she said at the time that “I think [the next Indigo Girls album is] going to be a more acoustic, back-to-basics album for us. I’m excited about that. I’m ready for us to make a simple, beautiful record.”
