From Thursday July 18th until Saturday July 20th 2002, Washington DC will play host to the first annual ARTISTS UNDISCOVERED showcase, Seminar & music industry mixer. Hundreds of independent musicians, music fans and record industry professionals will converge on the nation’s capitol for a few days of days of networking, deal making, learning, showcasing and socializing.
Showcase
On Saturday July 20th 2002 all the focus will be on some of the nation’s most talented and deserving independent artists at the ARTISTS UNDISCOVERED Showcase. This showcase will give undiscovered artists the opportunity to network with and perform live in front of industry professionals from record labels, production and publishing companies, management firms, recording studios, booking agencies, promotion companies and media outlets.
Seminar
The seminars taking place on Thursday July 18th and Friday July 19th are designed to give independent artists, musicians, producers, managers and other interested music industry participants a comprehensive overview of important aspects of today’s music business. All the information covered is up-to-date and relevant to the independent music community. Topics include, but are not limited to:
Finding gigs, Getting Media Attention & Coverage, Organizing Tours, Overcoming Financial Difficulties, Effective Promotion Techniques, Copyright, Songwriting & Publishing issues, Setting Up Your Business affairs, Releasing Your Own Record, Internet Strategies, Recording, Production, Management & Publishing Contracts, Foreign Licensing, Retail & Distribution and much more.
The Songwriter’s Forum & Musician’s Jam Session will take place after the daytime seminar on Thursday July 18th while the Producer’s Forum &
Demo Feedback Session will take place after the daytime seminar on Friday
July 19th.
Music Industry Mixer
The music industry mixer, designed around the artist showcase on Saturday July 20th 2002, is the gathering place for artists, musicians, music fans and others from all parts of the music industry to mingle, socialize and establish the beginnings of fruitful working relationships.
Music industry professionals (record labels, radio, press, producers, managers, agents, retailers, Distributors, attorneys, studio owners, etc.) who wish to attend the ARTISTS UNDISCOVERED showcase on Saturday July 20th 2002 for free can send us an email including your name, company name and mailing address to receive a pass: industrypass@mbstia.com.

We are also accepting submissions for the 2003 ARTISTS UNDISCOVERED AWARDS where awards are being handed out in three categories (Best Artist, Best Songwriter and Best Musician) in 34 music genres.
The genres being honored are Adult Contemporary, Adult Urban Contemporary, Alternative, Blues, Children’s Songs, Contemporary Christian, Country / Traditional, Country / Contemporary, Easy Listening, Electronic, Ethnic, Folk / Contemporary, Folk / Traditional, Funk, Gospel, Gospel / Rap, Hip Hop / Rap, Hip Hop / Rock, Instrumental, Jazz, Metal / Thrash, R&B, R&B / Funk, R&B / Pop, R&B / Urban Contemporary, Rock, Rock / College, Rock / Funk, Rock / Hard, Rock / Pop, Rock / Rap, Smooth Jazz, Top 40 and World.
