Lee Ann Womack ‘Compromises’ With Record Label Over Singles
Lee Ann Womack says there is always a struggle between herself and her record label when it comes to choosing singles. Womack is a lover of the sad, hardcore country ballads, while MCA Records execs naturally want more uptempo radio-friendly material, Womack tells LAUNCH.
“That’s always a trade-off for me and the label because of course they want three-and-a-half minute positive up and that’s–if you know anything about my music–that’s rare. I always want some Buddy and Julie Miller (news) great song, so we have to compromise, you know? I mean, they get, ‘I’ll Think Of A Reason Later,’ and I get ‘Does My Ring Burn Your Finger?'”
Womack’s current single, “Forever Everyday,” continues its climb up the country singles charts. Her first Christmas album, The Season For Romance, is currently in stores. The album features a mix of traditional and original holiday songs, including a duet with Harry Connick Jr.
