Da Brat To Release New Album ”Limelite, Luv And Niteclubz”
Rapper Da Brat will release Limelite, Luv And Niteclubz, her first new album in three years, on June 24. The first single from the set, “In Love Wit Chu,” is going for adds this week on urban radio.
Limelite, Luv And Niteclubz was produced by Jermaine Dupri and features guest appearances from Cee-Lo and Mariah Carey.
In addition to her new music, Da Brat is also one of the stars of an
upcoming movie, Civil Brand, which examines America’s prison industrial complex. The rapper’s co-stars include her older sister LisaRaye, M.C. Lyte, and Mos Def.
LisaRaye, who has moonlighted as a rapper on songs by Benzino and Lil’ Kim, recently shared that her younger sister has really opened the doors for other female rappers. “She is Da Brat,” LisaRaye said. “She has paved the way for not only just herself, [but also] for a lot of other people that’s coming behind her. She is the true rapper, the true artist in the family. I am the actress.”
Da Brat was the first female rapper to earn a platinum-certified album with her 1994 debut, Funkdafied. The follow-up, 1996’s Anuthatantrum, was certified gold, and 2000’s Unrestricted was also certified platinum for sales of a million copies.
