Britney Spears Rejects Suicide Script For Upcoming Video
Britney Spears has decided not to kill herself, according to a statement issued by the singer’s label, Jive Records. Over the weekend, Spears shelved plans for a video in which she drowns herself in a bathtub after escaping a pack of paparazzi who are chasing her after witnessing a booze-fueled battle with a boyfriend. According to the statement, “Early treatments for Britney Spears’ ‘Everytime’ video were unfortunately released to the media. Britney Spears was uncomfortable with these treatments due to the potential for a fictional accidental occurrence to be misinterpreted as a suicide. Accordingly, Ms. Spears revised the treatment to ensure the video for ‘Everytime’ will not have a scene in it that could in any way be perceived as a reference to a suicide.”
Her statement added that she “does not endorse this as a solution to any individual and fully recognizes that people who go to this length need assistance and advice.”
MTV found the script for Britney’s video and placed it on their Web site. However, a spokesperson at her record label told the New York Daily News, “Britney has never okayed that treatment. She saw a draft and didn’t approve it. … She would never go for that at all.”
