The Nick & Jessica Variety Hour proved to be a ratings success, so Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson will be back on television later this year in a Christmas special. Some 11.5 million people tuned in to watch the couple ham it up on Easter Sunday with Kenny Rogers , Jewel, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, among others. ABC has not officially announced the holiday special, but a network source confirmed for E! that it will, in fact, take place.
Simpson inked a sitcom deal with ABC last year, and her show is currently in development. Lachey also recently signed on with ABC, landing a role in a sitcom pilot starring Gina Gershon titled Hot Mamma. Nick told LAUNCH that he and Jessica are having fun with all of the exciting opportunities they have been presented with recently: “You know it’s just that so many things are happening for us. You know we just feel very fortunate to be a part of everything. And we just keep our options open and have a good time with it.”
Simpson guest-starred on last Thursday’s Apprentice finale, and she will perform Sunday (April 18) at the VH1 Divas concert. The show will air live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at 9 p.m. ET.
