Alanis Morissette And Barenaked Ladies To Co-Headline The ‘au Naturale’ Summer T
ALANIS MORISSETTE and BARENAKED LADIES are joining forces this summer for the co-headlining North American “AU NATURALE” tour that launches July 13 in Cleveland and wraps August 14 in Cincinnati. Marking their first tour together, the two Canadian artists will alternate closing duties throughout the 22-city trek that includes shows at the Jones Beach Amphitheatre in Wantaugh, New York (July 16), PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey (July 17) and two nights at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles (July 29, 30).
Looking forward to the “Au Naturale” tour, Alanis says: “I’ve loved these crazy gentlemen for years, and it will be a true honor traveling around America making some joyful noise with them. I look forward to being with a group of people who will not snicker to themselves when I say the word ‘about’ or ‘eh’…making art and cracking up on tour with the Barenaked Ladies sounds like a fantasy summer to me.”
“As musicians we’ve had great admiration for Alanis,” says Steven Page of the Barenaked Ladies. “She’s not afraid to speak her mind, and neither are we, so fans should expect a terrific balance of poignant fun during the course of the evening!”
Alanis will release her new album SO-CALLED CHAOS May 18 on Maverick Records. Co-produced by ALANIS, John Shanks and Tim Thorney, the album features 10 new songs written by the seven-time Grammy Award winner that set her free-flowing vocals, luminescent melodies and fervent introspection in a seamless mix of rock, pop, folk, electronic and Eastern stylings. “Everything”–the album’s newly-released first single–has already soared to #7 at AAA radio and #18 at Hot AC. The song’s soon-to-be-released video was directed by Meiert Avis, whose credits include U2, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan.
SO-CALLED CHAOS builds on elements from all of Alanis’ albums: it moves from the rockers “Eight Easy Steps” and “Excuses,” to the mid-tempo, introspective pop songs “Out Is Through” and “Everything,” to songs like “So-Called Chaos” and “Spineless,” both of which combine emotionally gripping lyrics with adventurous soundscapes.
BARENAKED LADIES–whose latest Reprise Records release EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE features the hit single “Another Postcard,” and the uber-radio friendly track “Testing 1,2,3”–have been on the road since the release of the album last October. This co-headlining tour with Alanis is a continuation of a North American trek for the band that began with the “Peep Show” tour in the fall, and a large-scale arena tour dubbed “Everywhere For Everyone” that ran all winter. CD’s and digital downloads from the “Everywhere For Everyone” engagements have been made available for purchase a day after the show in most markets (see: barenakedladies.com for more information). This summer, look for the band to again place emphasis on their 10-plus year catalog of hits and offer even more shows online for purchase.
Barenaked Ladies have been quite visible as of late, recently appearing on the Juno Awards in Canada as well as various morning programs in the States. The band also performed at this year’s NHL All-Star game in St. Paul, Minnesota. Next up for BNL is an appearance on the new Mark Burnett (“Survivor,” “The Apprentice”) produced show, “Casino,” set to air on the FOX network in June.
