Dixie Chick Hatched Twins
By Lia Haberman
It’s a double-pleasure delivery for Dixie Chick Martie Maguire–and just in time for Mother’s Day to boot.
The fiddler and her hubby, Gareth, announced the birth of twin girls on the group’s official Website, www.dixiechicks.com.
Older sis Eva Ruth was born April 27 at 8:05 a.m., weighing in at five pounds, 13 ounces, followed three minutes later by Kathleen Emilie, who weighed in at six pounds, 1 ounce. Both measured 19 inches.
The proud parents, who have been married since 2001, described themselves as “overjoyed” at the good news.
Maguire announced her impending pregnancy last November, the result of “two and a half long (but very fun) years of trying to get pregnant.”
“Does this mean there might now be a second generation of Dixie Chicks in the making?” reads a message on the band’s Website accompanying a photo of the twins.
Maguire’s tykes join a growing brood of Chicklets. Maguire’s sister, Emily Robinson, had a boy in 2002, while Natalie Maines, who had a boy in 2001, is currently preggers with her second child.
A call to the musician-mommies label was not returned Tuesday. It’s unknown when the Texas trio plans to record a follow-up to last year’s Top of the World Tour Live CD.
