Asian American Singer Breaks Ethnic Stereotypes With A New CD
Mion, an Asian American singer and songwriter will release her debut album “Constructive Lyricism” on May 30. The CD contains 9 tracks of contemporary pop which blends traditional Asian instrumentation with R&B. “Mion’s music takes a syncopated rhythm into a head-bobbing journey that borders on electronic music with a funk twist. This is a noteworthy debut for this new artist,” Nelson of Aarising.com writes.
Mion is short for Mi Young which in Korean stands for Beauty and Intelligence. Mion was born in Cincinnatti, OH and moved around most of her life. “Growing up I was like most other kids always singing and dancing around the house and annoying my siblings,” Mion says. It wasn’t until she started taking classes that she discovered she had some talent. “I thought “Great! Performing is what I love doing and what I want to be doing when I get older.” I thought it was as simple as that, that as long as you’re talented you can make it. I was so na
