Thea K — Brooklyn Rock Singer/Songwriter Plays London and Comes Home to Release Her Debut CD, “Species Closeout”.
New York, NY (August 26th, 2004) —
Thea K, the multi-talented singer, songwriter, guitarist, and visual artist from Brooklyn,NY has just returned home from playing to appreciative audiences in London, England to release her debut 11-song CD, “Species Closeout” on her independent label, Sea Dragon Records . The CD release party is scheduled for Tuesday, September 14th at 9 PM at The C-Note, a well known music club located at 157 Avenue C, in the East Village. The general public are invited to the CD release party which will feature door prizes and refreshments. There will be a special performance by Thea K’s alternative rock power trio featuring Thea K on guitar and vocals, accompanied by Peter Sampson on bass guitar and Pam Arnold on drums. With each player contributing their unique styles, Thea K’s trio has emerged to form a tight unit of high-energy rock. In addition to recording the new CD “Species Closeout,” they have performed at many local New York City clubs such as Continental, Acme Underground, The Orange Bear, and Downtime to name a few.
A native New Yorker and Brooklyn girl, Thea K’s songs have been described as “urban stories of sociopolitical angst and unrequited love told through an intense mix of contemporary rock styles.” Although she has been compared to artists like Chrissie Hynde, Alanis Morissette, Patti Smith and PJ Harvey, Thea K has managed to develop her own unique style. Growing up in Brooklyn — in an urban environment with a diverse mixing of cultures and experiences — has greatly influenced her songwriting. Like her talent, her music has many facets. Although the music is essentially rock based, it is influenced by a wide range of genres including classic rock, punk, metal and funk, folk, pop and even classical music.
Thea K has always been interested in both the visual arts and music and received her B.F.A. degree in Computer Art & Design from The University of Massachusetts, as well as a M.F.A. in Computer Graphics from The School of Visual Arts in New York City. While studying at college, she also found the time to play guitar in various local rock bands. After graduating from The School of Visual Arts, while working as a freelance web site designer, Thea K realized that music was becoming a much more important element in her life and she began to devote a great deal of her time to music and learning the craft of song writing. A self-taught musician, Thea K is not your average female singer/songwriter. She plays her own guitar solos, illustrated and designed the cover of the debut CD, and had a hand in mixing the tracks as well. This CD is straight-forward with minimal overdubs or multi-tracking to stay faithful to Thea K’s power trio live shows.
