Mexican Pop Star Gloria Trevi Known For International Scandal, Pregnant Again
MEXICO CITY – Mexican pop star Gloria Trevi, who touched off a scandal when she became pregnant while behind bars in Brazil four years ago, says she’s expecting again.
Trevi was cleared on rape and kidnapping charges in September after spending years in Brazilian and Mexican prisons.
She told Mexico’s largest TV network, Televisa, Wednesday that she was “very happy” to be pregnant. Trevi has said the father is her boyfriend, Armando Gomez.
In January 2000, Trevi and her ex-husband and manager, Sergio Andrade, were arrested in Rio de Janeiro on charges of abducting and raping teenage girls who joined their entourage.
Trevi became pregnant with her now 3-year-old son while awaiting extradition from a Brazilian prison. Her lawyers claimed she was raped by guards, but DNA testing revealed the father was Andrade.
In November 2002, Trevi decided to stop fighting extradition and was flown to Chihuahua a month later for a trial that ended with her acquittal.
Andrade was sentenced to just under eight years behind bars in Chihuahua last month, but most of that was excused on time served.
Trevi, whose music about sexual liberation and teenage frustration was widely popular in the early 1990s, is now on tour to promote her latest album, “How the Universe Was Born.”
