Miley Cyrus’ Slant-eye Pose Stirs Up Criticism From Asian Community
After a pose of Disney teen star Miley Cyrus, 16, made its way around the Internet, she has been receiving criticism from Asian groups and the Asian community. The singer/actress has been accused of taunting and mocking Asians by making slant-eye poses in a personal photograph with her friends pictured above.
The photo shows Cyrus, Justin Gaston her boyfriend and a group of friends posing behind one of her friends, who looks of Asian descent, pulling their eyes back as if they were mocking him or someone of Asian descent or so believed by many people who viewed the photo online.
According to several news outlets this one pose could cause the Hannah Montana starlet to lose her awards for the upcoming Kids Choice Awards for favorite TV actress which she has won the past two years.
In the meantime, Asian Pacific American nonprofit Organization of Chinese Americans is asking Miley Cyrus to apologize to the community.
“The photograph of Miley Cyrus and other individuals slanting their eyes currently circulating the Internet is offensive to the Asian Pacific American community and sets a terrible example for her many young fans,” stated the executive director, George Wu.
This isn’t the first time, Miley Cyrus has cause a stir with photos she has taken.
Representatives for Cyrus where not available for comment.
Openly(Frankly) it is too much crazy one this girl. I hallucinate she is 15 years old in the bottom and she makes the lunatic. Openly(frankly) she(it) would have to look her(its) face before laughing at Asian. They are better than this trainée. She(it) gives me the sheaf!!! The words are very appropriate in spite of they are vulgar.
Hey all who are offended by the photo – Get over it already!
A group of friends, including a friend of Asian descent having fun.
So What? To Asian people privilaged enough to live in the good ol US of A,please learn our culture, which includes making fun of our friends – it’s our way of showing affection.
I happen to be a Caucasian, living in a certain asian country, and on a daily basis am subjected to pathetic insults like being called a “Foreign Devil”,laughed at by ignorant people, pointed at,being pushed in front of in a line, having to navigate a sidewalk covered in spit.I can leave if I don’t like it,and the same goes for Asian people living in Western Countries.
I am more offended of her attitude afterward the incident than the photographs. If one made mistake without knowing, its not totally acceptable, but it is understandable, and forgivable. however, she made a half ass apology after she knows how offensive her actions were. to me, that means she thinks herself above the basic courtesy of respecting other human beings.
i am also disappointed at the level of support asian population is receiving over this. I read the comments at several news posting, and many people said chill give her a break because she is still a kid, or people who say people should be broaded minded now a days and just chill and stop overreacting. some people are “over reacting” exactly because of their fear of this attitude of latitude. it is NOT ok. precisely because she is a public figure, and very influencial, and her influence has now caused some people to think it is ok to be a racist, and not be apologetic. is this the world a child should grow up in? It is not decent to have someone underage to show a bit skin, but it is perfectly suffice the public for the same girl to practice racism, just as long as she take out 1 moment to give a nonchalant apology that basically said, i’m deserving of my right to be racism because the privacy of my life is more important than the racism i will perpetuate in the next generation of americans. so its ok if she does drug and prostitution and kill people in her own time, as long as its her own time and not public tv and she didnt know those actions offend people right?
Not to mention the fact that they’re all obviously drunk
I just don’t know about that Miley Cyrus. Why doesn’t she understand anything? She’s worse at being in the public eye than ANYONE! It should just be common sense what you shouldn’t do on camera when you’re a 16-yo celeb. At least she makes a pretty cute Asian girl.
Here’s my take: http://squareeyes.blinkx.com/?p=329
I’m Asian and when I first looked at the pic, I thought: “Is that Miley Cyrus?” Seriously, if she weren’t famous it wouldn’t be a big deal and get swept under the rug. What about the guy next to the Asian? No one in the media has said anything about that.
Was no one concerned with the fact that she and her boyfriend just look stoned and that there’s ALCOHOL in the picture? hahaha
people need to relax, let the kid have fun, shes loaded! why not have a good time, shes not hatin on anyone, people are halarious if there upset over this
You people need to get a life and stop getting offended so easy, she’s a kid for goodness sakes you people are idiots
“To Asian people privilaged enough to live in the good ol US of A,please learn our culture, which includes making fun of our friends – it’s our way of showing affection.”
Excuse me dumbass?! But what culture?! There are like a lot of different cultures in the US. How stupid are you? “PrivilEGED”?! Uhh a lot of people worked hard to get to the United States.
You’re the definition of DUMBASS
Look at the asian man, and look at the white folks. The asian dude is opening his eyes as wide as he can while everyone else squints. it’s a joke…it’s a personal photograph….the dude wasn’t being made fun of. and neither was anyones race. get a fucking life.
ok this is beyond STUPID!!!!! the guy in front of her is a asian dude!! if he isnt offended by this no one else should be!! and besides she isnt even worth 4 billion maybe 4 million! she is a teenager yall need to stop posting her personal pics and leave the poor girl alone and let her be a kid! geez you ppl who are all money hungary from a kid make me sick!

First of all, if you look at the picture, the person of Asian descent isn’t even making that face. His eyes are wide open.
And it’s really arrogant of you to say that it’s a PRIVILEGE for Asian people to live in the United States. Asians, as well as any other minorities, have just as much RIGHT, not PRIVILEGE, to live in the United States just like Caucasian-Americans do. And also, the American culture does NOT include making fun of people, and if it ever was, we should be ashamed of what we represent. PLEASE, re-evaluate your comment because this picture IS in fact offensive and you obviously wouldn’t know if you’re not Asian.
Betty, I agree with you. Miley Cyrus is a role model to many younger girls and yes, she may be only 16, but she’s famous and she should know that her actions will influence her fans.
The kid second from the left is dead-on perfect!
now she shouldnt of done that what so ever.that was being racist .but she is apolIgizeing now※※%
Love Miley, she’s young. ALL people in picture should be left alone as far as I am concerned. If their asian friend is NOT upset then why should anyone eles be? Get over it.
This picture is in fact very racist. Some people may view it as having some fun, but if Miley Cyrus painted herself black for Halloween and dressed like a slave, I am most definitely sure you guys will not consider it as her “having fun” on Halloween day and it is just a costume. This situation is the same, but due to the fact that we have very little knowledge of Asian struggles and accomplishments in our history compared to the African Americans who made civil rights possible, most people have identify this as “just having fun” and “she’s a little girl.” Would you let your child go around making fun of the African Americans or Hispanics? Why would it be wrong if Miley Cyrus was to wear a red bandanna on her head, or dress like a slave, but not if she is doing an UGLY slanted eye pose? She’s depicting a certain race with that gesture whether you agree or not, it it’s a negative gesture for asians.
And the comment on how “Asians are privileged” and asians should “learn our culture”, I’m sorry, but this continent that you are living on did not even belong to you in the first place. You guys took it away from the Native Americans by stripping them of any human rights and slaughtering them so they wouldn’t be able to fight back and start a war against “your culture”. You should go back to school and learn your history and realized how the minorities have helped expand your so called culture through trade, labor, inventions etc.
It’s sad that her personal life gets invaded and every move she makes will most likely be scrutinized negatively, but it’s something you have to take on when wanting to become famous. If she didn’t like it, she can quit, so we all wouldn’t make “such a big deal” about this situation. She is a very influential role model, and should suffer consequences when a mistake has been made. My ten year old niece idolizes her so much that she tries to get us to buy clothes that has an image of her on it or is something stylish that Miley would wear. When you fancy someone, especially the children that do idolize her, they feel that everything she does is “cool” and if Miley is making slanted eye poses, there will be many who will do it now also because of her. If she wasn’t famous, it wouldn’t matter, but she took on that role, so it matters alot.
GET OVER IT!!
They were all pulling funny faces in a picture, it was obviously not meant to be racist. It was amongst friends and was simply a funny photo that was not meant to be published over the internet. Why do people care so much anyway? If it was an asian or black person making fun at white people no-one would give a shit but because it is the other way round everyone is going crazy. It was not Miley being racist personally towards you, so you shouldn’t care. It is a private photo between friends that is pretty damn funny.
Are you serious people, if our president went around making slanted eye poses in his pictures, you think people would really just consider him just “having fun”? He had to apologize to the Mayer of Las Vegas, when he said that we shouldn’t be wasting our tax money in Vegas. Do you even know why? What he says has a big impact on our country, and if the president is saying no to Vegas, than most of us should really take it into consideration and not go to Vegas. By doing so, Vegas is losing money that would normally go to its other expenses, and the people living within the city. Obama did not mean to criticize Vegas directly, he was only using it as an example of a place that people waste money on, even though there are lots of other places where people waste even more money on. But he is a figure, he is famous, and people are watching his every move.
Bringing this back to Miley Cyrus, she is a figure (not important but influential to kids) , she is famous, and people are watching her every move, just like anyone else out there who is famous. You have to understand, people who make fun of other races are not FAMOUS, A KNOWN FIGURE IN ANY WAY, ISN’T INFLUENTIAL, AND IS NOT BEING WATCHED BY THE WORLD!!! If you want to be famous, than there are rules to follow, and if you don’t want to be speculated down to the dime of everything you do, than quit!! Miley Cyrus chose to be a singer/actor in which many people know about, than she should think before she acts. If she can’t handle it, than stop sing/acting since she sucks anyways.
since when does she hang out with 21 and older people? the dude is drinking wine. wtf?
since when does she hang around with people who r age of drinking? wtf is that about. she is a dumb cunt who has no talent at all!!!!

What an ignorant comment. I’m Asian and I was born here and so were my parents. I’ve been a fed employee working for the US government for my entire career. Before that I served my country for 4 years. I drive an american car. I’m more american than you ever will be. So don’t give me that “we’re privileged” to live here crap. You’re privileged for not saying this in someones face and getting your head dropped on the curb.
ANYWAYS, reminds me when Spain’s olympic bball team did the same thing. They were roasted for months. OBVIOUSLY, it’s not funny.
she apologizes and says that she was just “making a goofy face”…is she saying that Asians have goofy faces? I mean come on she says some really stupid things. Not only did they all look high as a kite in this picture one of them is drinking and Miley is like 16. Yes she has no talent and she is a self-praising cunt who thinks she has the power to threaten Radiohead’s fanbase by bitching on the radio about their lack of desire to meet her. Sorry Miley, you are not special, never have been, and just because 10 year old girls who don’t know what real talent is like you doesn’t mean you have talent. Just go away and get knocked up and fall off the face of the Earth.
