Aly & AJ Change Name To 78violet, Prep To Release Self-Titled Album
The Pop/Rock sister duo Aly & AJ ( Alyson, 20, and Amanda Joy, 18) most known from Disney, recently went for a name change which was announced earlier this month. The sisters who just recently completed a new album explained the reasoning behind their name change and what it means.
According to Alyson Michalka, the 7 and 8 are their lucky numbers and voilet is their alter ego.
78Violet reportedly represents everything that is going on with them now and the changes that they have gone through.
Alyson goes on to state that they don’t care if no one likes the name, stating “this is us” and they haven’t changed as individuals, this is just a new turning point.
As for the album, Alyson says you should be expecting a newer Aly & AJ.
78violet’s self-titled album is expected to release at the end of 2009 or early 2010.
Aly says about namechange:
“One thing I’m excited my sister and I took a risk on was changing our band name from “Aly & AJ” to “78violet.” [Note: They announced the name on Twitter. Follow Aly & AJ!] That was HUGE for AJ and I! We were scared at first that people might think we were trying to “ditch” Aly & AJ, which we’re so not! We’re still those people, but at the same time, our music has grown. When you listen to our new music, it really does sound like “78violet” – it’s an extension of Aly & AJ and our natural progression towards always wanting to have a band name. We never were able to think of something cool when we were younger. Also, I’m afraid of heights, so skydiving would be a different type of risk I might be willing to take in the future!”
