Disney Apologizes To Demi Lovato Over Show Joke About Eating Disorder
Former Sonny With a Chance star Demi Lovato actress and singer isn’t laughing about a recent joke which she felt made fun of her on Disney’s television sitcom Shake It Up.
The 19 year-old star, who went into treatment for bulimia, bipolar and self-injury last year, scolded the network for making fun of her medical condition which made her leave the “Sonny With a Chance” show after only two seasons.
The teen star took to Twitter to lash out at the network Friday and stated that she doesn’t see how a company can lose one of their actresses and make a joke about their disease. Demi Lovato went on to question if other actresses on the Disney Channel are getting thinner and thinner.
“I miss the days of RAVEN, and LIZZIE MCGUIRE,” wrote Demi Lovato on Twitter.
Actress and singer Raven Simone made headlines for her dramatic weight-loss which a number of media outlets where questioning earlier this year. The 25 year-old That’s So Raven and State of Georgia star, most known for her role as a child in The Cosby Show as Olivia, admitted to Vibe that her weight-loss didn’t boost her confidence. In fact, Raven Symone stated that since she has lost weight on the new show “State of Georgia,” she has to wear thicker body pads since she was supposed to be the weight she was before her weightloss.
As for Demi Lovato, Disney responded to her tweets and told the star that they are pulling the two episodes and will be reevaluating them and it is never their intention to make light of eating disorders.
In the end, Demi Lovato thanked them for their quick response to the matter.
