Erykah Badu Concert Cancelled In Malaysia, Singer Banned For Allah Tattoo
Seems that Erykah Badu has gotten her scheduled concert in Malaysia cancelled allegedly over a tattoo of Allah on her back.
Erykah Badu was scheduled to perform in Kuala Lumpur, the federal capital in Malaysia, on Wednesday, but Malaysian Government officials and Muslim groups reportedly don’t won’t her performing any longer, after a photo of Badu with a tattoo of “Allah” surfaced in the Malaysian newspaper The Star, BBC News reports.
Kuala Lumpur’s Culture, Arts and Heritage Ministry cancelled the concert and officials are citing the photo as “an insult to Islam.”
Erykah Badu has also been deemed a bad role model for young Malaysian women.
The Star has issued an apology for the photo saying, “We deeply regret any offense caused to Muslims and sincerely apologize for the oversight.”
What does Erykah Badu think about all this?
Well, Erykah Badu, who is reportedly already in Kuala Lumpur, is “worried and dismayed.”
Being that Malaysia is predominantly Muslim, and the tattoo is of Allah, what is all the fuss about?
Well, tattoos, in Islam, especially using the word “Allah,” are viewed as disrespectful.
In regards to the concert cancellation, officials claim the tattoo photo of Allah breached government guidelines on “religious sensitivities and cultural values.”
