Missy Elliot Returns To Hip Hop: Talks New Album, Music Production Today, More
Music producer, singer/rapper and songwriter Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott, who’s preparing to release a new album at the end of the year, sat down with Fuse TV 15 years after her 1997 debut studio album “Supa Dupa Fly” and discusses why she likes the album more now than then.
“I consider Supa Dupa Fly a great album because everything about it you hadn’t heard it before, you hadn’t heard that sound, even the rap flows were different. I think it was 10 years ahead, 15 years ahead. It’s funny, we did that album in two weeks,” stated Missy Elliot.
Elliot says that she is probably more ‘in awe’ with it now, than then.
When questioned about her upcoming studio album and the title which on the internet has a tentative title of “Block Party,” Missy Elliot stated that after asking fans on UStream, she’s still trying to figure it out.
As for Missy Elliot’s production skills, the Grammy Award winning artist feels that it isn’t different.
“My approach to writing and producing compared to when I did it in 1997, I don’t think that it’s any different. I think I go in the same way. I try to write what is relatable to the people, not just necessarily what I think is hot, something that can stick with the people. As far as producing wise.. I try to do music that’s totally the opposite of what I was hearing…,” stated Missy Elliot.
Missy Elliot’s upcoming seventh studio album has a tentative date of December 18, 2012 and is expected to feature production from the likes of Timbaland, Soul Diggaz, Danja, Pharrell, T-Pain and others.
