Queen Latifah To Appear In ‘Taxi’ Remake

Queen Latifah is getting behind the wheel for Taxi. The actress has signed on to an American remake of the popular 1998 French film by the same name, which will likely be helmed by Barbershop’s director Tim Story, who is in talks with 20th Century Fox, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film focuses on a lead-footed taxi driver who agrees to help out an enterprising detective intent on solving a string of bank robberies.

Queen Latifah last appeared in Bringing Down The House, which she also executive produced, and the mega-musical hit Chicago, for which she received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. She’s also committed to Barbershop 2.

Shania Twain Says Fame, Motherhood Not Hard To Balance

Shania Twain is finding that managing life as a superstar and mother of an almost-two-year-old son is not all that tough. While she has the help of a nanny on a daily basis, Twain said the balancing act actually feels pretty normal.

“I’m not really finding it all that difficult,” Twain said. “I kind of go with the flow when it comes to life and music. I think it’s because for me, it’s all the same thing. I’ve been doing it from such a young age. Having a child was just something that fell in naturally.”

Nina Simone’s Daughter Plans Bi-Coastal Memorials

The late Nina Simone will be remembered at two upcoming U.S. memorials being planned on both coasts by her daughter, Lisa Simone Kelly, a vocalist whose stage name is Simone.

The late jazz diva known as the High Priestess Of Soul will be celebrated on July 26 in New York at the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem. Simone will also be remembered on the West Coast at an August 9 memorial in Los Angeles’ Culver City district.

Internationally renowned for her diverse repertoire of pop, soul, blues and jazz as well as her civil rights work, Nina Simone died April 21 at her home in the South of France. Her funeral was held at Lady Of Assumption church in the town of Carry-le-Rouet, France, four days later.
