Queen Latifah is getting behind the wheel for Taxi. The actress has signed on to an American remake of the popular 1998 French film by the same name, which will likely be helmed by Barbershop’s director Tim Story, who is in talks with 20th Century Fox, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film focuses on a lead-footed taxi driver who agrees to help out an enterprising detective intent on solving a string of bank robberies.
Queen Latifah last appeared in Bringing Down The House, which she also executive produced, and the mega-musical hit Chicago, for which she received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. She’s also committed to Barbershop 2.
The actress–whose real name is Dana Owens–would do well to leave her personal driving record off the set of Taxi. Owens was pulled over for driving under the influence last November. She pleaded no contest and received three years’ probation, a $300 fine, and was ordered to participate in a 12-hour alcohol-education program.
Taxi is set to start shooting on September 15.
