On December 5, 2008 R&B singer/actress Beyoncé Knowles will be portraying legendary icon Etta James in a new film entitled “Cadillac Records” which is a biographical film and a musical drama written and directed by film director Darnell Martin.
The film hopes to take you on an exploration of the 1950s musical era while chronicling the life of Leonard Chess a Chicago-based record-company executive, and the singers that recorded at his label Chess Records which he co-founded with his brother, Phil during that time.
The story behind Chess Records is that the label started selling albums out the back of Chess’ Cadillac and helped launched the careers of those such as Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Etta James Muddy Waters and other legendary icons.
“Cadillac Records” will also star Adrien Brody as Chess, Cedric the Entertainer as Willie Dixon, Mos Def as Chuck Berry, Columbus Short as Little Walter, Jeffrey Wright as Muddy Waters, amongst others.
