Whitney Houston Tribute Brings On Tears; 2012 BET Awards Winners + Photos
The 2012 BET Awards red carpet was host to everything from hip-hop and R&B stars to a host of actors and actresses including Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, MC Lyte, Yolonda Adams, Faith Evans, Kerry Washington, Taraji P. Henson, Brandy, Chaka Khan, Melanie Fiona, Cissy Houston, Monica, Willow, amongst others.
The BET Awards most heartrending moment was the tribute to Whitney Houston which included an opening tribute speech by Mariah Carery that was followed with a performance by Monica who sang one of Whitney Houston’s favorite gospel tunes, “I Love the Lord.”
R&B singer Monica was followed by Brandy who did a great performance of Whitney’s hits, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “I’m Your Baby Tonight” which led into Whitney Houston’s brother Gary Houston singing. Whitney Houston’s brother was followed by their mother Cissy Houston who sung the song “Bridge Over Troubled Water” which touched numerous people in the audience who began shedding tears which included Beyonce as well as hip-hop artist Soulja Boy who was accompanied by female rapper Diamond.
The tribute to Whitney Houston would not have been complete without Chaka Khan who sang the song “I’m Every Woman” remade by Houston, as well as words from her cast-mates from the hit movie “Waiting to Exhale” – Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon and Loretta Devine who spoke highly of the singer.
