Jewel Creates Soul City Cafe
Launch.com — Jewel has created Soul City Cafe, a multifaceted program to encourage new talent and expose new artists across the country. It will coincide with the kick off of Jewel’s North American tour in June.
A rotating slate of 12 artists have been chosen for the special opening section of the tour. At eight venues two musical acts and one spoken word performer will strut their stuff during the “Soul City Cafe” segment of the show. At the end of July all the artists will convene in Jewel’s hometown of San Diego for an arts fest. The artists will also perform intimate shows in selected cities and be filmed for the Internet so fans can follow the Soul City Cafe artists on tour.
Soul City Cafe is a terrific opportunity to expose emerging artists to audiences, both in their own area and on a wider scale as well,” said Jewel. “There are so many great performers out there who deserve to be heard, and the hardest thing to do is to get yourself in front of enough people to get the ball rolling. I’m very excited to be able to create a grassroots situation through which they can build a real fan base.”
Starting in August, a Soul City Cafe contest will be held where artists will compete for the opportunity to perform at a play-off at a Soul City Cafe art fest to be held in early 2003.
