Following IceFire’s International Record’s Announcement and Presentation of an Air Platinum to Diane D Meinke, the creator of the STIFFFF KITTIES for debut CD entitled “Mya’s Book of the Dead”, Ms. Meinke received her ASCAP statement. The mood went from happiness and celebration, to tears and anger in no time flat.

This isn’t the first time a “Performance Organization” such as ASCAP, BMI or SESAC has stolen from the artists they claim to protect!!! They have no problem suing everyone else for copyright infringement, as well as extorting license fees out of venues that either air music or has live performances. Type in “ASCAP Lawsuits” in any search engine and see for yourself! It’s frightening, absurd, and needs to be stopped!
Ms. Meinke is a member in good standing with the AF&M (American Federation of Muscians). The union has been alerted and begun their investigation as to why Diane still has not recieved anything from ASCAP for the performance royalities rightfully due her and her publisher.
Diane D Meinke, creator of the Stiffff Kitties has been getting the “run-around” from ASCAP for over two years now, with no results. Her dispute started with ASCAP well before the CD went Air/Promo Platinum. Diane has yet to receive a single penny from ASCAP. Ms. Meinke currently has over 24 songs charting and playing worldwide (including the Stiffff Kitties material).
How do they get away with it???? Big them – little you. ASCAP gets richer and richer, and the Artist/Songwriter gets poorer and poorer. So how can the poor artist fight them when ASCAP’s collected all the money, and the artist has gotten none? It’s just like anything else in this world…money rules. Whether it’s right or wrong. In this case it’s quite obvious that the buck stopped in ASCAP’s pocket. The picture of the Award and ASCAP’s own statement is proof positive.
What can we do about it? We can stand up together against this injustice. Our hope for change lies in numbers. Spread the news, make others aware, and write to ASCAP and express your thoughts. It starts with just one voice.
Please send your emails to (info@ascap.com)and address it to Ms. Spoddig. Ms. Spoddig has been (handling?) the Stiffff Kitties dispute!
If you are an artist/songwriter afraid to step up to bat because you think you might get treated differently…you are fooling yourself. If you are lucky enough to be in their “pay clique” maybe (but don’t hold your breath) you might get a pittance payment, or a “sweep it under the carpet and keep your mouth shut Songwriters award” but it’s doubtful.
