Aretha Franklin To Sing At Obama Inauguration; Releases Xmas CD
Music legend and the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, will be performing at President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration in the Nation’s Capital on January 20, congressional leaders announced Wednesday.
The Jan. 20 event on the steps of the Capitol is expected to draw as many as four million visitors to see Obama take his noontime Oath according to sources.
In other news, the Queen of Soul recently teamed up with Borders to release her first Christmas CD in her career. The 21 Grammy-Award winner’s Christmas album, “This Christmas” will only be available exclusively at Borders, Waldenbooks stores and Borders’ Web site.
According to Franklin, the only reason she hadn’t put out a CD of this sort is because her previous labels were not interested and now that she’s independent she can do so as a free agent.
The Christmas CD will include 11 songs which will include her singing songs such as “This Christmas,” “Silent Night,” “14 Angels,” and “The Lord Will Make a Way.”
In addition to her new Christmas album, Aretha Franklin states she recently finished a new album “Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love” and she’s looking for a deal, a label distribution deal.
