Lopez Surprised at Chance for ‘Rebirth’
NEW YORK – Six years after breaking into the music business with “On the 6,” Jennifer Lopez is still amazed she has a recording career.
“I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would even be doing this this long. I mean, you just feel lucky to make one record in this business,” the 35-year-old singer and actress told Associated Press TV.
Lopez sees her fifth album, “Rebirth,” as a new chapter in her life.
“I really feel like this is kind of like phase two, the beginning of a different phase for me. You know, I made my first album and I did a bunch of movie projects and four albums — I never stopped,” she said.
“I really feel like this is kind of like phase two, the beginning of a different phase for me. You know, I made my first album and I did a bunch of movie projects and four albums — I never stopped,” she said.
Lopez capped this busy period — which included a hectic personal life that included her second marriage and divorce and high-profile relationships with P. Diddy and Ben Affleck — by taking several months off before restarting her career in recent weeks.
The career relaunch has drawn mixed reviews. New York Fashion Week’s discerning crowds cheered her clothing label’s first show in February, but days later she got a chilly response to her duet with husband Marc Anthony at the Grammy Awards.
But Lopez said she feels rejuvenated by diving into work after a period of rest.
“I felt like the same girl. You know what happens when you take time off? You kind of get back to who you were.”
