Missy Elliott Hits Extreme Exhaustion and Stress
Missy Elliott, who has a history of working to the point of utter fatigue, had to cancel her Carnegie Hall debut Thursday because of “extreme exhaustion and stress,” concert organizers told Newsday.
Elliott called off the concert on advice from her doctors Newsday reported, and her spokeswoman Anne Kristoff said the rapper has often been susceptible to the consequences of overworking. Fortunately, this time the superstar seductress knew enough to stop herself before she landed back in the hospital.
“She has a history of high blood pressure and she’s had to be hospitalized for exhaustion before,” Kristoff said. “She knows enough about her body now to know when she has to pull the plug.”
Still, having to do so was a disappointment to Missy, her spokeswoman said. Elliott would have been the third hip-hop artist ever to headline a show at the prestigious venue; Tweet was scheduled to perform with Missy. MC Lyte was the first to headline when she played the hall in 1990.
“She was very excited about playing Carnegie Hall since there have only been two other hip-hop acts who played there. But her health has to come first.”
The show, which was a part of the Verizon Music Festival, will not be rescheduled. Ticket holders can get refunds wherever they bought the tickets, or call (212) 247-7800, or go to www.carnegiehall.org.
Elliott will now take time to rest after finishing “The Missy Elliott Project,” a reality series, which will air on UPN and the Verizon Ladies First Tour with Beyonce Knowles and Alicia Keys. Elliott still has plenty of irons in the fire with her GoldMind record label and a recent agreement to design, “Respect M.E.” a clothing line, with Adidas.
