Thousands Request Aretha’s Bow Hat Worn At Obama’s Inaugural
Since Aretha Franklin sported the hat that had younger kids saying ‘what tha…,’ thousands of orders have been placed for the gray wool felt hat worn by the Queen of Soul during President Obama’s Inaugural ceremony on January 20th, 2009. Even though the singer says her singing wasn’t her best, it seems that her hat was an attention grabber.
According to LA Times, Luke Song, 36, a Korean immigrant who owns Mr. Song Millinery in Detroit (formerly owned by his father), stated he and his employees have “barely had any time to count” exactly how many requests he has gotten ever since the lengendary singer sung “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” while wearing the gray wool felt bow hat with Swarovski rhinestones on national television.
Aretha Franklin who has been customer of the store for more than 25 years actually came up with the concept after browsing the store looking for something to go with her coat, according to Song. And yes, she got it for free. Why not?
For those wanting the custom and hand-molded hat, it doesn’t come at a cheap price. A hat similar to that of Aretha Franklin can cost up to around $500 each. Don’t fret, Mr. Song Millinery does have affordable hats that have a similar satin-ribbon and design at the price of $179.
One thing is for certain, the church ladies will be definitely wearing it!
